Speaker: Dr Rachel I. Obed Registration link: https://bit.ly/NAMPwebinarJuly Dr. Rachel I. Obed is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Physics, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. Her areas of research include imaging techniques and patient dosimetry in diagnostic and therapeutic radiological procedures. She has about 25 years of expertise in radiation protection and dosimetry for patients undergoing medical procedures. Her research work involves the estimation of radiation dose from medical exposures in order to generate reliable dosimetry data for use in epidemiological studies of ionizing radiation and cancer risk. In 2010, Dr. Obed was awarded with the prestigious Taqi Binesh award at the international College on Medical Physics, for her significant contribution to Medical Physics research under the Training and Research in Italian Laboratory (TRIL) program at the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy. She was the Best TRIL research fellow for the past 5 years in 2010. Dr. Rachel Obed was an IAEA fellow at National Physical Laboratory UK (Sept – Dec, 2001), a Junior Associate of ICTP (2005 – 2012), a Regular Associate of ICTP (2014 – 2019). She is currently a member of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSDW), a member of the Nigeria Institute of Physics (NIP) and also a member of the Nigerian Association of Medical Physicists (NAMP). Dr. Obed teaches Radiation and Health Physics topics at the University level. She is also involved in Medical Physics Education program. She has successfully supervised quite a number of Ph.Ds, Masters and Bachelors students, some of whom are currently working as Medical Physicists in both private and government institutions locally and internationally. Dr. Obed is also currently a Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) accredited Radiation Safety Consultant/Adviser.
